PCOS
Hormonal Imbalance - Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
About PCOS
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a complex condition.
Is a common hormonal disorder in women of reproductive age characterized by irregular menstrual periods, excess androgens, and cysts on the ovaries
There is no single cause of PCOS and the exact cause is unknown, but most research leads us to genetics.
Most women with PCOS are already genetically predisposed to the syndrome, and many will also have a female relative with PCOS too. All it takes is a change in the environment for PCOS to present itself, which is why PCOS can be particularly frustrating. It is important to remember that having PCOS is never anyones fault.
Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance affects around 80% of women with PCOS
Inflammation
Most women with PCOS will have some degree of low level inflammation.
Lifestyle Factors
Your alcohol intake, sleep quality, whether you smoke or not, stress levels and exercise have all been shown in recent studies to contribute to PCOS symptoms.
